This hand-thrown stoneware jar captures the quiet intensity of the atmospheric-firing process. Its rounded form and thick rim evoke traditional storage vessels, while the surface tells a story of flame and ash. Vertical streaks of cream, tan, and rust flow down the body, created by natural ash deposits and heat variation inside the kiln. The stoneware body was fired to temperatures that surpassed 2400 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve full verification making it suitable for outdoor display.
The bubbled, cratered texture is the result of prolonged exposure to high temperatures and fly ash, giving the piece a tactile, organic feel. Each mark is a record of the firing’s atmosphere—unrepeatable and alive with movement.
Suitable as a contemplative interior piece or an outside focal point to a garden design, this jar embodies the elemental dialogue between clay, fire, and time that defines atmospheric-fired ceramics. A drain hole has been incorporated in the design allowing the jar to be used as a planter as well.
